The basic DataDot system provides five key processes designed to work together to give you an extremely affordable, yet powerful proof of ownership and theft deterrent system:

  1. Apply MicroDots to your valuables with the included Applicator Brush
  2. Apply the tamper-resistant holographic Warning Labels to entrances and larger valuables
  3. Complete the MicroDot registration process
  4. Complete the Asset Tracking Forms and Microsoft Windows-compatible Asset Tracking Software
  5. Back-up the Asset Tracking Software and asset information and store in an off-site location

What is a MicroDot?

MicroDots included in the basic DataDot Identifier kits are about the size of a dot made by a ball-point pen. Each MicroDot is encrypted with a unique alphanumeric identification code similar to a vehicle identification or social security number. In other words, all the MicroDots in the DataDot Identifier kit include the same number that is unique to that kit.

The DataDot Kit includes 500+ MicroDots. It is recommended that at least five Microdots be applied to each item in both visible and hidden locations. Therefore, a jar of 500 MicroDots will mark approximately 100 items. Hidden MicroDot locations can be noted in the Asset Tracking software or handwritten into the Asset Entry form described below.
The unique MicroDot identifier number is easily viewed with the illuminated magnification device included in the DataDot Kit.

Apply the MicroDots

The MicroDots are suspended in a pot filled with water-soluable ultra-violet light sensitive adhesive. The included Applicator brush is used to paint the MicroDots onto identified valuables. The adhesive becomes tack-free in thirty minutes and fully cured in twenty-four hours. Once the adhesive is cured, it is clear and water resistant.

Remember to apply MicroDots in both visible and hidden locations. In addition, it is recommended to paint on some additional adhesive marks that do not contain MicroDots to make removal by thieves more difficult. As items are marked, use the included Asset Entry Form to note the Asset details, MicroDot location, insurance policy, etc.
After applying the MicroDots, the Applicator brush can be cleaned with water and saved for future applications.

Apply the Warning Labels

A number of tamper-resistant holographic warning labels are included in the various DataDot Identifier kits. The basic kit includes two large warning labels to mark front and back entrances and twenty small warning labels to mark larger valuables.

The labels give a strong warning to would-be thieves that a property and its contents are identified by the DataDot system.

Additional labels may be order as needed.

Install Software and Register Your Unique Identifier Number

If you own a PC with internet access, you can register your unique MicroDot number using AssetCommander, the included asset tracking software. After completing the software's registration form, you will automatically connect to Identify USA's secured registration site. Your contact information and MicroDot number will be stored and you will be provided with a Registration Code that unlocks the full functionality the AssetCommander software.

If you do not have a personal computer, you can store your handwritten Asset Entry Forms and register by telephone.

Enter Insurance Policy Information into AssetCommander

After registering, you can begin by entering your insurance policy information. Multiple policies may be entered into the system.

When all assets have been entered that apply to a particular insurance policy, AssetCommander will automatically total the asset value and compare it to the specific insurance policy's coverage amount. If the insurance policy is insufficient to cover the total, an under-insured warning will be displayed as shown here.

Enter Asset Details into the AssetCommander

Refer to the handwritten Asset Entry forms and input details into AssetCommander. Information can be quickly entered by tabbing through the data entry fields. If desired, digital photos can be imported into the image container field as shown.

Once assets are entered, you can search by any detail, create lists and subtotals by location, calculate net worth, indicate heirs, etc.

After completing the asset list, the entire program and information can be backed-up for storage in a safe deposit box or other off-site location.

Procedure in the Event of Theft
If you are ever burglarized, file a police report and , of course, an insurance report and contact Identify USA immediately. Then, simply submit a list of the stolen items via the instructions inside the DataDot kit. Your local law enforcement agency will be contacted and sent on your behalf a special DataDot Identifier kit to help identify and recover your items! Your list of stolen items, along with your personal DataDot number, will also be entered into a secure Lost Goods database accessible only by authorities. Then, if police detect a MicroDot on a recovered item, they can check the Lost Goods database to find out if the marked item has been reported as stolen. With a match, they will be able to return the valuable to you as the rightful owner and have the proof of ownership they need to convict the thieves.
